On the Air

The Mix

A base of alternative rock mixed with chunks of indie, blended to perfection and topped with randomness is the recipe for WAUG's mix. Tune in for everything from Weezer to Kaki King, Coheed & Cambria to Del the Funky Homosapien. If it's good, we play it on WAUG.

Free Energy

Free energy is an American rock/pop band formed in 2007 in Philadelphia, PA. They just released their sophomore album, Love Sign, on January 15, 2013. The band currently consists of Paul Sprangers (vocals), Scott Wells (lead guiatrist), Evan Wells (bass), Sheridan Fox (rhythm guitar) and Nicholas Shuminsky (drums). In 2010, Rolling Stone labeled Free Energy as being one of the best new bands in 2010. Free energy opened for Weezer during their Memories tour and has toured with bands such as Foreign Born, Hollerado, Titus and Mates of State.

While still holding onto that 80’s rock style that they had been trying to achieve, Free energy’s new álbum does a good job of putting a fresh modern twist on the classic rock genre. Their music provides listeners with catchy radio-friendly tunes that are slightly pop-oriented, yet still are based on rock and indie roots. Paul’s voice is crisp and pleasant to listen to, and gives the álbum a mellow and chill vibe that listeners can enjoy.
